Love is Never Wasted
I read a quote recently that read “If you can love the wrong person that much, imagine how much you can love the right one.”
I don't believe that there is a "right one" and a "wrong one." That belief tends to create a separation within the self that denies the role that anyone plays for your growth and evolution.
Sometimes the "wrong one" was there to show you the contrast of where you weren't loving yourself or where you yourself were holding back from love.
Sometimes the "wrong one" leads you further home to yourself, and when you come home to yourself, you realize the "right one" has been all along.
Whoever we loved, whoever we gave our heart to, it was for a purpose. There was a reason we opened our hearts, a reason we let love in or extended that love to each other. Yes, there can be pain in relationships, especially when they end.
But the love that once existed?
It still exists--perhaps it's just repurposed and transformed and carried over into something else, something new.
I like to envision love like a beam of energy being emitted from the heart. Maybe it's never fully received or reciprocated by who you want it to be, but that love isn't lost. It's never wasted. Now it's out there in the world--landing in the heart of a lonely widow receiving the smile of a passing stranger, the tender touch from outstretched hands rescuing an abandoned animal, the warm embrace of a grieving friend.
Love reaches where it needs to, lighting up darkened corners of the world.
So don't hold back. Don't shut down the heart. Don't deny yourself the love you feel.
Love is never wasted.
