It started in November 2008 in a small village in France.
I was a hot mess due to anxiety, homesickness, and--unbeknownst to me at the time--having my first real spiritual awakening. The owner of the inn where I was staying, seeing that my anxiety hadn't abated two weeks into my four-week trip--took me to see her friend, Yves, in a nearby village.
Yves was a psychic medium who lived in a trailer in the middle of the woods. I can't tell you how we got there or where it is now, but he helped change my life. It was my first experience with Reiki and my first experience with mediumship, where my grandmother (who I was unconsciously grieving) came through. He knew things no one could have known--especially not someone living in the middle of a French forest thousands of miles away from home.
At the end of our visit, he handed me a piece of paper and instructed me to visit a pharmacy. At the pharmacy, I was handed a selection of small blue tubes that contained little white pellets. I began taking them. The rest of my trip I felt calmer, more at ease--even after missing my flight home and spending 24 hours overnight in the Paris airport.
Flash forward to a few years after that, and I began to learn about Bach flower remedies. A few years after that, I learned about essential oils. Then, another few years ago, I was reintroduced to those small blue tubes with little white pellets through clients-turned-friends who are certified in the practice of Homeopathy.
Life really does have a way of coming full-circle in beautifully organic ways...
For the past few months, I've been consulting with one of my coaching clients who is also a certified Homeopath. She's helped me with one of Moxie's health issues and is assisting me with my own lingering Lyme symptoms. When I spoke to my regular doctor this week about wanting to try a protocol for these flare-ups, I discovered that she is also classically trained in Homeopathy, and she enthusiastically gave me the greenlight.
A few weeks ago, I pinpointed the emotional source of a lot of my fatigue and lack of stamina and, at the direction of my client/practitioner, took a remedy. I immediately felt relief.
A few days ago, I began to feel feverish and the onset of a cold, and as I already have the beginnings of a home remedy kit, I referred to resources and took a remedy. I felt 100% better by morning.
And now, after a few weeks, I'm in the middle of taking a level-one beginner's course which is utterly fascinating and the next stage of my healing and health journey.
(For the record: I have no plans on being a practitioner for others outside of caring for myself and family.)
Modern medicine saved my life, but I went through hell with it to get there. I fully believe in science, but I also believe that science is often playing catch-up in its provings of what is already naturally known. I also fully believe--from my own experience--that doing the work of inner healing has helped the process of my physical healing.
Modern medicine is often reliant on textbook practices that don't take into account the whole person, and while Homeopathy is focused on the symptoms to determine the remedy, it's not about simply suppressing the symptoms but resolving them down to the root.
When I was still searching for answers, I had amassed a collection of 12+ different disorders, including: EBV, CFS, Vitamin B deficiency, Vitamin D deficiency, migraines, Fibromayalgia, POTS, and neuropathy--and half of these were diagnosed from the same neurologist at Johns Hopkins!
That's when I said, "Wait a minute... How can I have all of these issues and there's not one root cause?"
Thats when I immediately decided not to listen to my conventional doctors who said there was "nothing really wrong with me."
That's when I followed my own intuition and helped save my own life--by finding a specialist who, through his own experiences with Lyme, thought out-of-the box to save himself, his family, and now others.
Here's a fun fact: the founder of Homeopathy, physician and scholar Samuel Hahnemann, is the only physician to have a memorial dedicated to him in Washington DC.
Some of the best doctors and nurses I've had were ones that didn't follow convention but that had an open-enough mind to question, to research, to follow their own intuition and look at the patient as a person and not just the data.
All this to say...
I'm excited to keep learning about Homeopathy, and I'm even more excited to continue on my own health journey.
